Lineman Jobs in Austin

Austin is a municipal utility town: Austin Energy owns the distribution system inside the city, so the biggest local employer is city-run rather than an IOU. Outside the city limits, LCRA carries the transmission, and Central Texas population growth keeps both new-construction and rebuild crews busy year-round. Average pay here runs about $87,140, above what most Texas metros pay, and a Texas Class A CDL is standard on journeyman distribution postings.

Who Hires

Austin-Area Employers

Austin EnergyMunicipal

City-owned distribution utility and the anchor employer inside Austin proper.

LCRATransmission

Lower Colorado River Authority runs the transmission network across the surrounding Hill Country.

MasTecContractor

Staffs build-out and maintenance crews across the metro on utility contracts.

Pike ElectricContractor

Line construction and restoration work throughout Central Texas.

Because Austin Energy is a muni and LCRA is a state authority, hiring, testing, and benefits look different from a private utility; the IOU vs co-op vs municipal breakdown covers what changes. Round Rock, Georgetown, San Marcos, and Cedar Park pull additional postings as the suburbs build out.
