Do I need experience to get an apprentice job?

No, but you rarely compete against people with none. Groundman time, a pre-apprentice certificate, or a CDL moves you up the stack.

How long is a lineman apprenticeship?

Most run three to four years of combined on-the-job hours and classroom instruction, with scheduled pay steps as you advance.

Union or non-union apprenticeship?

IBEW programs offer a set wage progression and dispatch through the hall; utility and contractor programs hire faster and vary more by employer. Both end with a journeyman ticket.
