Miami, Florida
Lineman Jobs in Miami, FL

Miami-Dade imports roughly half its peak summer power, which makes transmission capacity into the county a standing priority and keeps FPL's hurricane-hardening program funded year after year. That means steady distribution and hardening work, not just post-storm restoration surges. Average lineman pay across Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach runs $79,040, and FPL wants a Class A CDL or your commitment to get one within six months.

Getting hired

What Miami Crews Want

  • The CDL, or a plan for it. FPL lineworkers need a Class A CDL or the ability to obtain one within six months. That six-month window is a real opening for candidates who otherwise qualify. See what the Class A and DOT card actually require.
  • Hardening work, not just storms. FPL's grid-hardening program means pole replacement, undergrounding, and feeder work runs through the dry season too. This is one of the more year-round metros in Florida.
  • An entry path that fits. Florida is right-to-work, so most South Florida line work is non-union contractor work you enter as a groundman. If you want the union route, use the IBEW local finder to identify the local covering outside line work in South Florida.
Questions

Miami Lineman FAQ

How much do linemen make in Miami?

Average lineman pay across the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area is $79,040. Storm restoration hours during hurricane season can push actual earnings above that in an active year.

Does FPL require a CDL?

FPL lineworkers need a Class A CDL or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire. That grace period is unusual and worth knowing about if you are otherwise qualified but unlicensed.

Is Miami line work seasonal?

Less than most Florida metros. Miami-Dade imports about half its peak summer power, so transmission and hardening projects run alongside the June-to-November hurricane season rather than only after it.
